THE SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGE REQUIRED ME TO DECONSTRUCT AND QUESTION EVERY PART AND EVERY MATERIAL USED IN OUR PRODUCTS. IT WAS AN AMAZING LEARNING PROCESS. AFTER SOURCING UPPER MATERIALS, SOLE MATERIALS, BACKINGS, THREADS, INSOLES, LACES, ETC. FROM SUPPLIERS THAT PROVIDED FULLY RECYCLED MATERIAL, WE ACHIEVED AN UPPER THAT WAS MADE FROM OVER 90% RECYCLED MATERIAL AND A SOLE WITH OVER 30% RECYCLED MATERIAL. THE PURPOSE OF THIS INITIATIVE WAS TO CREATE A NEW PRODUCT ARCHETYPE USING A SUPPLY CHAIN THAT COULD BE APPLIED TO ANY SILHOUETTE WITHIN THE PRODUCT LINEUP. THE END GOAL IS CRADLE TO CRADLE CIRCULARITY. A LONG WAY AWAY FOR THIS PARTICULAR COMPANY, BUT BABY STEPS ARE BETTER THAN NO STEPS.
THE PRODUCT BECAME A COMMERCIAL SUCCESS, SPAWNING QUICK TURNAROUND DESIGNS FOR THE NEXT ITERATIONS OF THE Y2K-INSPIRED RUNNING FRANCHISE.
