Here’s one of the “modern trekking” upper designs I worked on during my footwear design role at Bershka. It was intended to quickly capitalize on the growing trend of outdoor/adventure footwear. For this exercise, it was key to define the features that speak the language of existing product archetypes and create something different within those parameters. This particular design features ripstop nylon, a hot melt TPU overlay with a graphic print (reflective print on the black colorway), speed lock laces, and a technical, low-profile outsole (designed by one of my colleagues). Not a bad look for the concrete jungle, but unsuitable for serious hikes.
